A Regular Meeting of the Flushing City Council was called to order on Monday, February 25, 2002 at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Janice L. Gensel, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag (led by Boy Scout Troop 302) and invocation.

Approval of Agenda – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to remove the Girl Scout week proclamation from the agenda and move it to the agenda for the March 11, 2002 meeting.

            Nay:     None

            Motion Carried.

 

Addition to Agenda – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Gault, to add item C-3 – Chamber of Commerce request to use Riverview Park – Walleye Festival, to the agenda.

            Nay:     None

            Motion Carried.

Elva Cook, 315 Sunnyside, addressed City Council.

 

Donald Rockwell, recent appointee as judge for the Sixty-Seventh District Court, introduced himself to the Council and audience.

 

CONSENT AGENDA:

 

Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to approve the Consent Agenda, City Council Minutes (February 11, 2002 Regular Meeting), City Council Minutes (February 11, 2002 Closed Session) and February 25, 2002 Council Bills List.

REPORTS:

 

Interlocal Agreement – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Gault, to approve an Interlocal Agreement between Flushing Community Schools, the City of Flushing, and the Charter Township of Flushing to make improvements to the soccer complex located on Seymour Road.

                        Due to budget constraints, this list is preliminary.  Some of the streets listed may be scheduled for paving in 2003.  The final listing will be released in May after the bid opening.

 

            and to accept the Design and Construction Engineering Proposal provided by Rowe, Inc.  Design engineering is estimated at $22,755.00 and construction observation at $50,400.00.

Chamber of Commerce – Request to Use Riverview Park – Motion by Girard, seconded by Gault, to approve the Chamber of Commerce’s request to use Riverview Park for the Walleye Festival, March 8 – 10, 2002.

            Nay:     None

            Motion Carried.

 

Closed Session – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, that pursuant to the Open Meetings Act compiled laws 15.268(d) to go into closed session to consider the purchase or lease of real property and to consider the option to purchase or lease real estate.

            Nay:     None

            Motion Carried.

Purchase of Real Property – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Gault, to authorize the Clerk and Mayor to sign a purchase agreement for property discussed in the closed session.
