A Regular Meeting of the Flushing City Council was called to order on Monday, February 24, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor Janice L. Gensel, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and invocation.

Approval of Agenda – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Gault, to approve the February 24, 2003 agenda as presented.

MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC:

Walter Skidmore, 515 Sunnyslope, and Elva Cook, 1459 Flushing Road, addressed City Council.

CONSENT AGENDA – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to approve the City Council Minutes of the February 10, 2003 Regular Meeting and the February 24, 2003 Council Bills List.

BID/AWARD PURCHASES:

Vehicle Exhaust Extrication System – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to table the request to purchase a vehicle exhaust extrication system.

Motion Carried.

Assessing Software – Motion by Johnson, seconded by Girard, to confirm administration’s intent to purchase the Equalizer software along with the sketch system from BS&A Software, in an amount not to exceed $6,960.00.

ORDINANCES:

Chapter 30 – City Council – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to remove the amendments to Ordinance No. 30 – City Council, from the table.

Motion Carried.

Chapter 30 – City Council – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Girard, to move to first reading the revisions, as submitted by the city attorney, to Chapter 30, City Council.

Closed Session – Purchase of Real Estate – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to go into closed session pursuant to the Open Meetings Act compiled laws 15.268(d) to consider the purchase or lease of real property and to consider the option to purchase or lease real estate.

Nay: None

Motion Carried.

Closed Session – Ward vs. City of Flushing – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Girard, to go into closed session pursuant to the Open Meetings Act to consult with our attorney regarding trial or settlement strategy in connection with Warda vs. City of Flushing, because an open meeting would have a detrimental financial effect on the litigating or settlement position.
