A Special Meeting of the Flushing City Council was called to order on Monday, September 15, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. by Mayor Janice L. Gensel, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and invocation.

 

Present:                                  Richard L. Bade

                                                John C. Gault (entered meeting at 4:17 p.m.)

                                                Janice L. Gensel

                                                Jay E. Johnson

                                                Raymond L. Peck

                                                Michael T. Szukhent

 

Absent:                                   Teresa K. Salem

 

Others Present:                      Dennis J. Bow, City Manager

                                                Nancy G. Parks, City Clerk/Treasurer

 

MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC:

 

No comment.

 

Closed Session – Motion by Bade, seconded by Szukhent, that pursuant to the Open Meetings Act compiled laws 15.268(d) to go into closed session to consider the purchase or lease of real property and to consider an option to purchase or lease real estate.

 

            Yea:     Bade, Johnson, Peck, Szukhent, Gensel

            Nay:     None

            Motion Carried.

 

Closed Session – Motion by Johnson, seconded by Szukhent, that pursuant to the Open Meetings Act compiled laws 15.268(c) to go into closed session to consider strategy connected with negotiations of a collective bargaining agreement.

 

            Yea:     Bade, Johnson, Peck, Szukhent, Gensel

            Nay:     None

            Motion Carried.

Real Property – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to direct the City Manager to enter into a purchase agreement on property discussed in closed session.

 

            Yea:     Bade, Gault, Johnson, Peck, Szukhent, Gensel

            Nay:     None

            Motion Carried.

 

Union Contract – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to approve the deletion of the last line of the health care provision (The deductible will be reimbursed for the first prescription, per family member, per month.  Reimbursement will be made once a month, in the month following the expense.) in the Police contract and, in turn, there will be a 3% raise retroactive to July 1, 2002.

 

            Yea:     Bade, Gault, Johnson, Peck, Szukhent, Gensel

            Nay:     None

            Motion Carried.
