A Regular Meeting of the Flushing City Council was called to order on Monday, January 22, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor Janice L. Gensel, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and invocation.

PRESENTATIONS:

Mr. Dave Lewicki, Parks and Recreation Committee Chairperson, presented recognition awards to Brett Beckley, Eric Reed, and Walt Skidmore, for their dedication and enthusiasm in volunteering for Parks and Recreation activities, such as "Movies in the Park," Pumpkin Path, etc.

COMMUNICATIONS:

Consortium on Child Abuse and Neglect - Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Gentine, to approve the request by the Consortium on Child Abuse and Neglect to use Riverview Trail and Pavilion No. 1 in Riverview Park for the 2nd annual "Blue Ribbon Walk" on April 28, 2007.

REPORTS:

Michigan Municipal League (MML) Legislative Conference - Motion by Bade, seconded by Szukhent, to approve the expenses in connection with the attendance by Mayor Gensel and Councilpersons Kozan, Szukhent, Bade, Gentine, and Salem, at the MML Legislative Conference on March 21, 2007.

2006 Genesee County Land Use Analysis - The Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission forwarded a copy of the 2006 Genesee County Land Use Analysis, which contains information that will aid in land use planning activities. The study provides an update to existing land use inventory, and compares new data with the 1978 data. The report reveals land use and population trends.

May 8, 2007 Election - Library Millage - The City Manager informed Council that petitions to place proposals on the May 8, 2007 election ballot will need to be filed with county and local clerks by February 23, 2007. The City Manager also indicated the need to consider putting the financing together for the reconstruction of the old city hall, located at 309 E. Main Street, on the ballot. A final recommendation of the Capital Improvements Committee will be presented at the February 12, 2007 City Council meeting.

Lions Club Circus - Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Gentine, to tentatively approve the Lions Club request to hold a circus in Riverview Park on August 14, 2007. Further details will be discussed at the next meeting.

Parks and Recreation Committee - Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Gentine, to confirm Councilperson Bade's appointment of David Lewicki to the Parks and Recreation Committee for a three-year term.

Planning Commission - Motion by Bade, seconded by Gentine, to confirm Councilperson Szukhent's appointment of Kevin Keane, and Councilperson Salem's appointment of Daniel Borgerding, to the Planning Commission for three-year terms.
