A Regular Meeting of the Flushing City Council was called to order on Monday, February 12, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor Janice L. Gensel, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and invocation.

Addition to Agenda - Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to add Walleye Festival under Communications, as item B1.

Consent Agenda - Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Salem, to approve City Council Minutes (January 22, 2007 Regular Meeting) and February 12, 2007 Council Bills List.

COMMUNICATIONS:

 

Flushing Area Chamber of Commerce - Request to Use Riverview Park and Riverview Trail for Walleye Festival - Motion by Gault, seconded by Gentine, to approve the Chamber of Commerce request to use Riverview Park and Riverview Trail for the annual Walleye Festival on March 9, 10, and 11, 2007.

REPORTS:

 

2007 Genesee County Auction - Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to dispose of one (1) 2003 Crown Victoria police vehicle, one (1) 1988 Chevrolet dump truck, industrial metal band saw, John Deere 25A 72" flail mower deck, commercial refrigerator, leaf machine, and miscellaneous office furniture and equipment, at the 2007 Genesee County auction.

            Motion Carried.

 

Library Millage - Motion by Bade, seconded by Gentine, that the City of Flushing shall place upon the May 8, 2007 ballot a proposal to increase Ad Valorem taxes by .35 mil for a period of twenty (20) years to renovate, remodel, reconstruct and maintain the former City Hall as a public library.  This ballot proposal shall be placed on the ballot in conjunction with Flushing Township.

Police Millage - Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Gault, to approve a resolution that the City of Flushing shall place upon the May 8, 2007 ballot a proposal to renew the .5 mil Ad Valorem tax to continue a police liaison officer with the DARE program in the Flushing Schools.

            Motion Carried.

 

Police Millage - Motion by Bade, seconded by Gault, to approve a resolution that the City of Flushing shall place upon the May 8, 2007 ballot a proposal to increase Ad Valorem taxes by .5 mil to continue the services of two police officers in the Flushing Police Department.

            Motion Carried.

 

Zeta Theta Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity - Motion by Kozan, seconded by Salem, to accept Zeta Theta Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity's offer to provide volunteer debris removal on Main Street and Flushing Road, at the direction of the Director of the Department of Public Works.

BID/AWARD PURCHASES:

 

Sanitary Sewer Reconstruction - Motion by Kozan, seconded by Gault, to approve the Waldorf and Sons, Inc. proposal, at a cost of $7,090.00, to install a new manhole and sanitary sewer main, on property owned by Daniel Borgerding, between Chamberlain Street and Oakbrook Condominiums.  (Mr. Borgerding has offered a Permanent Easement to the City.)
