A Regular Meeting of the Flushing City Council was called to order on Monday, May 14, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor Janice L. Gensel, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and invocation.

PUBLIC
HEARINGS:
2007-2008 Proposed Budget – The Mayor opened the public hearing to the audience. There was no public comment. The Mayor closed this portion of the public hearing.
The City Manager reviewed the 2007-2008 proposed budget. He explained that there would be no reduction in staffing levels because of the passage of the police millages.
Basic levels of service will be maintained with no capital improvements planned.

G.F.W.C. Flushing Women’s Club - Motion by Gentine, seconded by Kozan, to approve the Flushing Women’s Club request to hold the 41st Art In The Park on June 2, 2007.

American Cancer Society – Relay for Life – Motion by Bade, seconded by Gault, to approve the American Cancer Society’s request to use Riverview Park for the 7th Annual Flushing Relay for Life on June 15 and 16, 2007.

Flushing Area Chamber of Commerce – Summer Fest – Motion by Gault, seconded by Salem, to approve the Flushing Area Chamber of Commerce’s request to hold the Flushing Summer Fest in Riverview Park on June 6-10, 2007.

2007 Proposed Tax Levy - Motion by Gault, seconded by Gentine, to adopt 2007 millage rates: General Operating, 7.0020; Police Operations, 1.0000; Capital Improvement, 3.0914; total, 11.0934.

ORDINANCES:
Zoning Ordinance Amendment – Nonconforming Structures – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Gault, to move to second reading and adoption of an amendment to Flushing Zoning Ordinance No. 153. This amendment is an addition to the existing language relating to nonconforming structures in the R-1 district where the lot frontage is less than 75 feet and damage is sustained in excess of 60% of the building value, thereby keeping the existing language in place for all other zoning districts.
