A Special Joint Meeting of the Flushing City Council, Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor Janice L. Gensel, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and invocation.

MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC:

 

Elva Cook, 1459 Flushing Road, addressed City Council.

 

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM:

 

The City Manager distributed the following documents:

 

  • The March 8, 2006 Capital Improvement Program, as modified in 2007.
  • May 16, 2008 Capital Improvement Program, as modified by council comments.
  • Revised listing of high priority and immediate need components.
  • Memorandum from Mr. Todd Allen.

 

A brief presentation was provided by the City Manager outlining proposed changes to the Capital Improvement Program.  In addition, a brief overview of the city’s budget and the impact on the Capital Improvement Program was highlighted. 

 

Changes to the 2008 Capital Improvement Program include new priorities and time frames for the following items:

 

  • McKinley Street Bridge
  • Downtown Traffic Study
  • Pavilion Roof and Lighting over Ice Rink and Benches
  • Developing Somerset Park

  • Converting the DPW Garage into a Community Recreational Center
  • Providing a Buffer between Riverview Park and Downtown
  • Relocating the DPW Facility to Industrial Drive
  • Re-striping the Downtown Parking Lots

 

Upon conclusion of the City Council/Planning Commission and Committee Member recommendations, a revised Capital Improvement Program Schedule will be introduced at the June 9th council meeting.
