BID/AWARD
PURCHASES:
Automatic Meter Readers - In order to
reduce the cost, both administratively and in the field, of reading meters and
entering that data into the city’s utility billing system, administration has
researched various methods of implementing several new electronic systems. In
the future, a program will be prepared in order to replace existing older meters
that will accommodate a radio frequency head that has the ability to transmit a
signal to electronic meter reading equipment.
The handheld automatic meter readers (AMR)
manufactured by Badger are recommended for both current and future use, as the
replacement meter transition is implemented.
The Badger AMR package that we are planning to use within the next three
(3) months would include three (3) handheld units, twenty-five (25) meters,
reading data management software, and two (2) days of training, which will cost
Seventeen Thousand, Four Hundred Fifty-Eight ($17,458.00) Dollars. In addition, the package includes a full
year of technical support, which will allow up to three (3) people on our staff
to be trained in the use of these products.

A significant savings can be achieved through
the use of AMR’s, as the system currently being used requires duplicate input
of data each month meters are read.
Once the data is downloaded from each of these electronic units, a
billing can be generated with very little effort compared to the many hours
that are currently expended in transferring data to the computer and
maintaining individual address cards.
Automatic Meter Readers - Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to approve the purchase of three (3) Badger handheld automatic meter readers, including related software and training, for a total cost of Seventeen Thousand, Four Hundred Fifty-Eight ($17,458.00) Dollars.
Yea: Bade, Brock, Kozan, Salem, Szukhent, Gensel
Nay: None
Motion Carried.
Adjournment - Motion by Bade, seconded by Salem, to adjourn.
