A Regular Meeting of the Flushing City Council was called to order on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor Janice L. Gensel, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and invocation.

Approval of Agenda - Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, to approve the January 12, 2009 agenda.

MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC:

Elva Cook, 1459 Flushing Road, addressed City Council

Consent Agenda - Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Salem, to approve City Council Minutes (December 8, 2008 Regular Meeting), and January 12, 2009 Council Bills List.

Motion Carried.

COMMUNICATIONS:

Michigan Municipal League Capital Conference – The Michigan Municipal League Capital Conference will be held March 3-4, 2009 in Lansing. All council members interested in attending are to contact the City Manager’s Assistant.

Riverbend Striders Running Club – Motion by Bade, seconded by Szukhent, to approve the Riverbend Striders Running Club 2009 Running Series. The series includes the following:

January 17, 2009 - Snowflake Run and Walk

February 14, 2009 - Sweetheart Run and Walk

March 14, 2009 - Shillelagh Four Mile Run and Walk

March 28, 2009 - Flushing Half Marathon

April 11, 2009 - Tax Trot

June 10, 2009 - Oldies Festival

ORDINANCES:

Office/Residential Joint Uses – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Gault, to move to second reading and adoption of amendments to the city’s Zoning Ordinance Sections 153.310 and 153.901, allowing for mixed residential/office uses in the OS-1 District by special use permit, in accord with Standard BA.

Yea: Bade, Brock, Gault, Kozan, Salem, Szukhent, Gensel

Nay: None

Motion Carried.

Closed Session:

Purchase of Real Estate – Motion by Szukhent, seconded by Bade, that, pursuant to the Open Meetings Act compiled laws 15.268(d), to go into closed session to consider the purchase or lease of real property, or the option to purchase or lease real property.
