Section 5.10 The Fire Chief shall be the administrative head of the Fire Department and shall be accountable and responsible to the City Manager for performance of duty. The Chief shall perform all duties as may be prescribed by law, the Charter, the City Manager and/or ordinances and resolutions of the City.

Mission Statement:  The mission of the Flushing Fire Department is to protect the lives and property of the people of the City of Flushing and Flushing Township from fires, natural disasters, and hazardous materials incidents; to save lives by providing emergency services; to prevent fires through prevention and education programs; and to provide a network to give back to the communities that we serve.

The Flushing Fire Department is an on call department. We cover 36 square miles and a population of approximately 19,000. Our department has 24 members that are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Our command structure consists of a Chief, Assistant Chief, Battalion Chief, (2) Captains, (2) Lieutenants and 17 Firefighters.
