Sec. 53.45. - Due date; penalty for late payment; shutoff of water.
- Except as indicated in this section, water meters shall be read and bills for actual water usage shall be mailed quarterly. All bills shall be due and payable 15 days after the billing date thereof. Any bills not paid on or before the due date shall be assessed a penalty of five percent of the amount of the bill or the unpaid balance thereof. If water bills are not paid within 30 days after the due or payable date, the water service will be shut off without further notice and will not be turned on again until all arrearages are paid, and, in addition thereto, a fee is paid for restoration of water service. From time to time, the city council shall, by resolution, set the amount of the fee which shall represent the city's estimate of the actual cost of restoring water service. The failure to receive a bill does not entitle a customer to exception from the penalty.
- The city may bill any consumer who uses over 50,000 gallons per quarterly period on a monthly rather than a quarterly basis. The same penalty, due date, and shutoff date shall apply to monthly billing as to quarterly billing.
